Rio is a terrific gelding and fiber producer of lovely, ropey suri locks.
Rio's fiber is a creamy, soft, light fawn color. His fiber spins into a gorgeous, luxuriously silky yarn, ideal for vintage-style "antiqued" lace pieces and other fine end-products where white would be too bright, and color just too much. It's ideal for tea-stains and other natural dyes, as well.
Rio has a temperament his owner, Doreen, describes as "Bold. He's the first one to the fence at feeding time. He puts his feet in the water buckets on hot days and sometimes knocks them over. He LOVES being sprayed with the hose. Once that water turns on he is right at the fence doing a dance because he wants to be in the front of the line to get sprayed." Doreen went on to say that Rio is very easy to handle. I kiss him every morning on the head. I can barely get the gate open because he is trying to stick his face in the food bowl. He is fun and makes me laugh. He has a lot of personality! Still, he is a BOSS."
As far as "handling" during health procedures and for other purposes (like leading or just being shown off to visitors), Rio is "O.K....We haven't worked with haltering too much, but I don't remember him ever giving too hard a time."
Rio's fleece is ,"very dense," says Doreen. His lineage (which explains where his fiber characteristics have come from), includes: PPeruvian Uribe, PPeruvian Brux, Helios, PPeruvian Miquel & Admiral 581 IMPG98.
As you can see, Rio is sure to fit into just about any fiber herd, and for all the reasons made so clearly above.
