San Antonio Gal's Solana

Solana is bred (pregnancy confirmed) to 17 X Champion RR Guns' Kit Carson for her 2018 cria. Based on her previous cria, we expect that this cria will carry the sire's density and likely be grey or black. Given her retained fineness and epds, we think this will be a stellar cria!

Solana was part of our original herd purchase. She came to us with Reveille at her side. While he was an accidental breeding (to a suri), he shows that, bred to light color, she will produce a dark cria. So far all of her cria have been a pretty red brown or black. Her fiber is a medium density that has retained it's fineness with age. And her 2012 EPDs show the ability to produce cria with excellent fineness and uniformity: AFD -1.323, SD -0.149, %>30 -7.883. When bred to very dense males, she has produced very dense cria.

Twice now, Solana has produced a true black cria when bred to our herdsire Caligula's Troubador. This year it was a girl! She and Midnight Prelude both have great density, coverage and fineness, and excellent conformation, like their Sire. 

So, for her 2015 cria, we chose to breed her to Velvet Legend in the hope of pulling black or grey from his background. He boasts outstanding conformation, amazing density and lasting fineness. Check out the gorgeous fawn female they produced. 

Solana's December 2016 cria is by Silver Sammovar, one of our very fine fleeced herdsires. Unfortunately we didn't get gray or black. But we did get a very nice brown boy with striking black points. At three months, his fleece is exhibiting very nice character with "bundling", density, and nice fineness. Add his really nice conformation, and we think this boy has some serious potential!
